• “The interview appropriately covered the key technologies listed (AWS Cloud, Terraform, Kubernetes, Prometheus). However, the questions in AWS Cloud and Terraform were at a senior or advanced level. While I was confident in answering them, it creates an unclear evaluation standard for a mid-level position. A mid-level candidate may not have deep expertise in every listed technology, and the current process may be filtering out strong candidates by setting an unintentionally high bar across the board. Before the interview, it would be extremely helpful to specify the expected level of proficiency for each technology. For example, clarify if the role requires "expert-level" knowledge in AWS and Terraform, but only "foundational" or "working" knowledge of Kubernetes and Prometheus. This manages expectations and allows candidates to more accurately represent their skills in the context of the role's actual day-to-day requirements. My expertise is particularly strong in AWS Cloud and Terraform, where I was able to answer advanced questions. The recruitment process could be improved by placing greater value on a candidate demonstrating deep, senior-level skills in the most critical areas for the role, while perhaps meeting standard mid-level expectations in others. This approach recognizes "T-shaped" candidates who bring significant depth in core technologies, which can be a major asset to the team.“
