Tech Lead

Vienna, Austria
Tset is redefining how the manufacturing industry approaches cost and sustainability. The software empowers engineers to make smarter, greener, and more cost-efficient decisions—from development through production to procurement.

Tset is trusted by global players like BMW Group, Brose, and Stabilus, and they are scaling fast across Europe, North America, and Asia.
Tasks:
  • Build up a new backend team: help shape team setup, hiring, onboarding, and ways of working
  • Lead and develop engineers through mentorship, feedback, and a culture of quality and ownership
  • Stay hands-on: design, implement, and ship backend features in our core product (you’ll code regularly)
  • Own technical decisions end-to-end: architecture, system design, APIs, data modeling, and engineering standards
  • Drive delivery in a cross-functional feature setup (Product, Frontend, Customer Success) aligned with company goals
  • Improve reliability and performance of production systems (observability, scalability, maintainability)
  • Establish strong engineering practices: code reviews, testing strategy, CI/CD quality gates, pragmatic documentation
Must-have:
  • 7+ years of backend development experience with Java/Kotlin and Spring (preferred), or equivalent experience in the JVM or .NET ecosystem
  • Proven experience building and operating production backend systems (performance, reliability, clean architecture)
  • Strong system design skills: API design, data modeling, distributed systems fundamentals
  • Experience leading engineers (people leadership, mentoring, feedback, enabling others to deliver)
  • A pragmatic, structured mindset: you balance speed with long-term maintainability
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in English for an international team
  • Experience with cloud platforms, observability stacks, and modern deployment setups
  • Experience scaling teams or introducing standards/processes in a growing product organization
Nice-to-have:
  • Prior exposure to cost calculation / manufacturing / cost drivers domain
Benefits and conditions:
  • A high-impact role in a product-driven company that’s scaling fast
  • Flat hierarchies and room to shape the product and engineering culture
  • Hybrid work setup with flexible home office options
  • Team lunches, coffee/snacks, fun team events—and optional German language classes
  • Extra vacation days: your birthday, Christmas, Easter, and (in Austria) all bridge days (Fenstertage)
  • A diverse, international team of about 60 experts from software, math, and different industries
  • Compensation based on skills and experience. For this role, the minimum salary is €75.000 gross/year.
