Engineering Lead

World Data Lab (WDL) is a data enterprise that produces the most consistent and credible estimates for spending and demography. WDL advisory board includes leading representatives of the World Bank, Brookings Institution, and academia.
Tasks:
  •  Define and drive tech strategy and growth to achieve long-term objectives in the data analytics, product, innovation, and company culture
  • Contribute to the development of product roadmap together with other Senior Leadership team members and C-level executives
  • Ensure all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes work towards WDL’s commercial and public goals
  • Support continuous improvement of internal processes and strategy through innovation and development
  • Collaborate across the entire organization to design the optimal computer architecture for WDL
  • Lead and encourage research into next-generation technologies
  • Manage current infrastructure and ensure all internal systems operate securely and effectively
  • Take ownership of managing escalations, e.g. from resolving internal and/or external interpersonal and/or business incidents to addressing technical challenges
  • Managing all Jira boards across the tech pipelines
  • Actively manage and monitor all Cloud (AWS) instances and services
  • Actively manage and train junior team members
  • Engage closely with the Chief Analytics & Technology Officer (your direct supervisor) and contribute to the company-wide data-product road map. 
Must-have:
  •  7+ years in developing and implementing the technical strategy to efficiently achieve business goals
  • Proven ability to lead in a fast-moving, team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Excellent leadership skills and hands-on mentality
  • Ability to work with a broad range of technical areas and leverage skill-sets within and across different teams
  • Strong knowledge of agile development processes and current best practices
  • Capacity to guide the development of complex projects that involve data scientists, product owners, and designers.
