The position will be at KX which is a division of First Derivatives, a global technology provider with 20 years of experience working with some of the world’s largest finance, technology, retail, pharma, manufacturing and energy institutions. KX delivers the best possible performance and flexibility for high-volume, data-intensive analytics and applications across multiple industries.


Kdb+, the core platform underpinning FD’s software division KX, is the world’s fastest time-series database, deployed in markets as diverse as financial trading, space exploration, telecommunications, and formula one racing. Kdb+ combines streaming, in-memory and historical data in a simple and unified platform. 


Now KX is looking for DevOps Engineers who are motivated self-starters and are comfortable working collaboratively as well as independently, to join our Strategic R&D team. You will:


  • Design platform transformations and migrations towards modern cloud infrastructure
  • Ensure smooth and reliable operation of the application platform, the surrounding ecosystem of microservices, and their dependencies
  • Troubleshoot, debug and follow-up on emerging issues in our application stack and its surroundings
  • Implement and utilize configuration management and deployment tools

Requirements

Must-have skills:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 3+ years of experience in an SRE/Operations/DevOps role as part of a team 
  • Experience in supporting complex web applications running highly available and high traffic infrastructure based on Linux
  • Comfortable with configuration management and orchestration tools (Puppet, Ansible, Chef, SaltStack, etc.), and modern observability infrastructure (monitoring, metrics and logging)
  • Aptitude for automation and streamlining of tasks
  • Comfortable with shell and scripting languages used in an SRE/Operations engineering context (e.g. Python, Go, Bash, Ruby, etc.)
  • Good understanding of Linux/Unix fundamentals and debugging skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently, as an effective part of a globally distributed team
  • Familiarity  with CI/CD 
  • Familiarity with modern distributed container cluster management systems (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, Mesos, …)
  • Advanced English skills
